The main airport is the International Brussels Airport at Zaventem, 20km from central Brussels and 25km from Leuven.
Chareroi (Brussels South) through which Ryanair operates is 50km from Brussels and 75km from Leuven.
The airport is directly connected to the national and international rail grid through a terminal within the airport building.

The trains operate every 20 minutes and the journey to North Station takes about 15 minutes. At North Station you change for Leuven.
Be careful to take the Leuven train and not the Louvain la Neuve (L/N) or Louvain, Cite Universitaire (which is in the opposite direction).
There are several trains each hour and the journey time is about 20 minutes.
The Institute is about 15 minutes by taxi from the rail station.
Remember to buy a straight through ticket as it is cheaper.
If you wish to take a taxi directly from the International Airport at Zaventem, the journey time is about 20 minutes.
However it is best to arrange in advance, via the Institute, to have a taxi from Leuven collect you as it is less expensive
and the Leuven taxi drivers all know where the Institute is situated.
There are a number of possibilities for transferring to the Institute from Charleroi (Brussels South) Airport.
A coach service operates between the airport and the Wild Geese Pub in the international centre of Brussels.
The coach departs 20 minutes after each flight arrival and the journey takes about 1 hour.
A 5 minute taxi ride will bring you to the Central Station where you can take a train to Leuven.
Be careful not to take the train to Louvain la Neuve (L/N) or Louvain, Cite Universitaire which is in the opposite direction.
There are several trains from Central Station each hour and the journey time is approx. 20 minutes.
A taxi from Leuven station to the Institute will take about 5 minutes.
Should you decide to take a taxi from the Wild Geese Pub it is best if you arrange for a taxi from Leuven, via the Institute in advance,
as the cost is less and the Leuven taxi drivers know the location of the Institute.
From Charleroi (Brussels South) airport it is also possible to take a taxi to
Charleroi Sud railway station (about 5 minutes) and take a train to Brussels North where you can change for Leuven.

Generally as part of the overall programme arrangements, a coach will be organised by the Institute and be waiting at the airport
with one of the Institute staff members on board to assist you on arrival.
